What You Should Know.
Hot water heaters provide your household with hot water. A hot water heater is basically a big vertical tank that holds water. Cool water enters the house, and is fed to the hot water heater through a pipe called a dip tube. The cool water is then heated by an electrical element or gas burner (depending on what system you have). As the water heats up, it begins to rise. The hot water, now at the at the top of the tank, exits through a pipe called the heat-out pipe, and is then fed to the rest of the house tp supply your shower and faucets with hot water.
Although simple in design, it’s important to have your hot water heater looked at by a licensed plumbing technician from time to time. Due to the high temperature and pressure involved, hot water heaters can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. If you’re experiencing any issues with hot water in your house, let us help you.
Tankless water heaters work under a similar principal as the standard hot water heater, but without the tank (as the name implies). Instead of holding water and heating it up constantly, tankless hot water heaters heat water on an as needed basis. The heating element is triggered by incoming water. If you are thinking about upgrading to a tank-less water heater, here are some things to consider:
Point of Use vs Whole House Heaters
Point of Use systems are made to heat one or two outlets (your bathroom sink or shower for example) at a time. They’re small units, and can easily fit in a cabinet or under a sink. Whole House Systems are larger and more expensive than their counterpart. They can be mounted outside or inside the house, and can deliver hot water to multiple outlets at a time.
